We’re excited to introduce Astra Live Search, a feature designed to enhance your website’s search functionality.Â
No more waiting for results pages – now, get real-time search suggestions as you type.
This guide will walk you through the steps to add live search using the Astra theme.
What is Live Search?
Astra’s Live Search completely changes how you search. Before, you had to hit enter and wait for the results.
But now, as you start typing, the results pop up instantly. It’s a whole new way to search, engaging your users like never before.
And because it’s powered by the REST API, you get lightning-fast results. This makes searching more interactive and user-friendly than ever.
Activate Live Search
Before we get started, ensure you have the Astra theme installed on your WordPress website.
While Live Search is free to use for all users, some customization options such as Search Style, Placeholder text, and more require you to install Astra Pro addon.
Now, let’s walk through the simple process of adding live search functionality.
- Go to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Appearance > Customize.
- From the Customizer, navigate to Header Builder.
- Here, click on the + icon and add a Search module to any of the headers.
- Click on the search bar or open the newly created Search section to access all the search settings.
- Toggle the option to activate Live Search.
- From here, you can select the search within post types. You can select what content appears in the search dropdown: Posts, Pages, or both.
- If you choose the search style as a search box or slide search, you’ll notice a valuable addition – the Search Width option. This allows your website visitors to attain a search bar layout like Amazon’s wide search.
- Once you’re done, click on the Publish button to save the changes.
Here’s how the search bar looks on the website.
That’s it! Explore the possibilities and improve your search bar according to your preferences with Astra’s new customization options.
