It’s been 4 years since we launched a WordPress theme that eventually set new standards in the WordPress community. The only non-default WordPress.org theme that is loved by more than a million users and counting.

Here’s a quick look at this beautiful 4-year journey of Astra!

2017- The Birth of Astra!

When we first launched Astra, there weren’t many themes in the market that were lightweight and offered a lot of customizations.

Being in the website development business for a few years, we understood first-hand the challenges and hassles of building a reliable, fast, secure, and easy-to-launch WordPress theme.

We had been spending many hours, resources, and lots of money in building custom themes for every new client project. We didn’t really have a one-stop or scalable solution to build a fast, flexible, beautiful, and conversion-optimized website.

So we decided to build a solution that aimed to fill the void in the market, and also deliver on everything required to build world-class websites.

With our years of combined experience, we introduced Astra to the WordPress community in 2017.

Astra was not just another WordPress theme.

We introduced a whole new way of developing websites. Astra introduced a much lighter and faster theme than other competing options. It also provided a more efficient way for the overall website building process.

The feedback and support we got from the community were overwhelming. We were beyond thrilled and surprised!!

It was a satisfying feeling to learn how Astra helped developers and webmasters around the world to build websites hassle-free. 

The 4 Year Journey! 

The journey has been exciting from Day 1.

We believe that change is the only constant thing! 

The web is evolving fast, which means the requirements for running an online business also change with that. Your needs change so do the needs of your clients.

That being said, we constantly improved Astra over time to meet and exceed user demands and expectations. 

That’s a core part of our cultural DNA — continuous and never-ending improvement. 

And we are proud of every update since the launch. 

Here are some of our milestone updates.

• Introducing Starter Templates (formerly Astra Sites) – Importing beautiful and ready-made websites made possible with a single click. 
• Astra Pro with useful addons – Starting with Blog Pro and site layouts, we eventually added many more useful addons. Today it’s a collection of 20+ premium addons. 
• Astra 2.0 – Major Astra update with a revamped customizer that comes with a faster loading website. 
• Starter Templates 2.0 – The #1 template plugin for WordPress users. Today the plugin provides more than 150 ready-to-import websites. 
• Astra 3.0 – Even faster Astra with Header Footer Builder

Not so long ago, we also celebrated the 1+ Million active installs. We are humbled and proud to be the only non-default WordPress.org theme to have achieved this milestone.

Starter Templates also crossed 1 Million active installs on the WordPress repository.

I know. I know. This sounds like a cliche. But it is not.

4 years later, we are still as excited as ever to take Astra to the next level in every aspect.

Our aim is to empower business owners to build websites much quicker than before, regardless of their design or coding skills.
