LearnDash Integration in Astra Pro

The LearnDash module in Astra Pro adds extra options to the Customizer for websites that use the LearnDash LMS plugin. The options help you simplify the learning pages for students, show the student’s profile picture in the header, and match LearnDash colors and fonts to your Astra design.

Requirements: The Astra theme, the Astra Pro Addon plugin, and the LearnDash plugin must be installed and active on the website.

Which options work with which LearnDash template

LearnDash has two templates, LearnDash 3.0 and Legacy. To check which one your site uses, go to WordPress Dashboard → LearnDash LMS → Settings → General → Design & Content Elements and look at the Active Template setting. For more details, see Astra Compatibility with LearnDash Version 3.0.

If you are wondering why an option is missing in the Customizer, the active template is the most common reason. The options are split like this:

  • Both templates: Distraction Free Learning, Display Student’s Gravatar in Primary Header, and Profile Picture Links to.
  • LearnDash 3.0 template only: Check this if you wish to overwrite LearnDash Colors, and the Colors group (Link Color, Highlight Color, Highlight Text Color, Progress Color).
  • Legacy template only: Table Border Radius, Header Font and Content Font (Typography), and the table Colors (Heading Color, Title Color, Icon Color, Separator Color).

Quick Steps on How to Use the Advanced Features Using the LearnDash Module:

Step 1: Make sure the Astra Pro Addon plugin and the LearnDash plugin are installed and activated.
Step 2: Activate the LearnDash module from WordPress Dashboard → Astra → Dashboard, under the Modules section.
Step 3: Go to Appearance → Customize → LearnDash to change the settings.

Once enabled, you will see new features and options as described below:

Distraction Free Learning

If you want students to focus on the lesson without the site menu around it, turn on Distraction Free Learning (shown as Enable Distraction Free Learning with the Legacy template). Go to Appearance → Customize → LearnDash and switch it on.

When enabled, the main menu and extra links are removed from the header and footer on LearnDash course, lesson, topic, and quiz pages. The header keeps only the site logo (and the student’s Gravatar, if that option is on), and the footer keeps only the small footer bar with your copyright text. This applies to logged-in students who have access to the course. Other visitors still see the normal header and footer.

Student’s Gravatar in Primary Header

To show a logged-in student’s profile picture in the header, go to Appearance → Customize → LearnDash and turn on Display Student’s Gravatar in Primary Header. The picture comes from the student’s public Gravatar image. It is shown only to logged-in users.

Important:

This option works only with the Legacy Header (the older header, not built with the Header Builder). It does not work with the new Header Builder, which is the default on new sites. With the Header Builder, the option can be turned on, but no picture is added to the header. The two cases are explained below.

If your site uses the Legacy Header: After the option is on, a text field named Profile Picture Links to: appears. Enter any URL, such as the “my account” page, to make the picture a link. If the field is left empty, the picture is shown without a link.

If your site uses the new Header Builder: Use the shortcode [astra_learndash_profile_link] instead. Add it to an HTML element in the header (Appearance → Customize → Header), or place it in any other area such as the footer, a sidebar, or a widget. To make the picture a link, add the link attribute, for example [astra_learndash_profile_link link="https://example.com/my-account/"]. The full steps are in LearnDash Shortcode to Add Profile Link.

If you are not sure which header your site uses, open Appearance → Customize → Header. A site with the Header Builder shows the builder area with draggable elements at the bottom of the screen. A site with the Legacy Header shows the older header options instead.

Table Border Radius (Legacy template only)

To round the corners of the LearnDash course content tables, go to Appearance → Customize → LearnDash and move the Table Border Radius slider. The value is in pixels, from 0 to 50.

Note: This option appears only when the LearnDash Legacy template is active.

Typography (Legacy template only)

To set a custom font for the LearnDash tables, go to Appearance → Customize → LearnDash and open Header Font (for the table headings) or Content Font (for the table rows). Each one has Font Family, Font Weight, Text Transform, and Font Size (set separately for desktop, tablet, and mobile).

Note:

These options appear only when the LearnDash Legacy template is active. With the LearnDash 3.0 template, the LearnDash pages use the typography set under Appearance → Customize → Global → Typography.

To change the colors of the LearnDash tables, go to Appearance → Customize → LearnDash. The Legacy template shows these color groups:

  • Heading Color: text color (Normal) and Background of the table headings.
  • Title Color: text color (Normal) and Background of the lesson and topic rows.
  • Icon Color: the Complete and Incomplete status icon colors.
  • Separator Color: the line between the rows.

Note:

These options appear only when the LearnDash Legacy template is active.
