How to Fix “The Package Could Not Be Installed. The Theme Is Missing the style.css Stylesheet” Error

Seeing this error while installing Astra Pro? Don’t worry, your website is safe and nothing has been changed. This error simply means the file was uploaded in the wrong section of your dashboard. The fix takes less than a minute, and this guide will walk you through it.

Why does this happen?

Astra Pro is a plugin, not a theme. It works on top of the free Astra theme and unlocks extra features.

When the Astra Pro ZIP file is uploaded through Appearance > Themes > Add New Theme > Upload Theme, WordPress looks for a style.css file (which every theme must have). Since Astra Pro is a plugin, that file isn’t there, so WordPress shows this error.

How to fix it

1. Make sure the free Astra theme is installed and active on your website.
2. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
3. Click the Upload Plugin button at the top of the page.
4. Click Choose File and select the Astra Pro ZIP file you downloaded from your store account. The file name will look similar to astra-addon-plugin-x.x.x.zip.
5. Click Install Now.
6. Once it’s installed, click Activate Plugin.

Seeing this error with Premium Starter Templates?

The same fix applies. Premium Starter Templates is also a plugin, so upload its ZIP file under Plugins > Add New Plugin > Upload Plugin instead of under Themes. Once it’s activated, you can start importing templates.
