How to Reset Astra customizer

The Astra theme offers a wide range of customizer options including layouts, typography, colors, buttons, header and footer settings, and more. As you explore these settings or try out different Starter Templates, it’s easy to end up with a configuration that no longer matches the direction you want for your site.

Manually reverting every option back to its default value is tedious and error-prone, especially when you don’t remember the original defaults. That’s where the Astra Customizer Reset plugin comes in. It adds a simple Reset button directly inside the WordPress Customizer that restores all Astra customizer settings to their factory defaults in a single click.

When Would You Need This?

Here are a few common scenarios where a full customizer reset is helpful:

  • You experimented with multiple Starter Templates and want a clean slate before importing a new one.
  • You’ve been testing typography, color, and layout options and want to start fresh with Astra’s defaults.
  • You’re redesigning your website and want to begin the customizer setup from scratch without leftover settings conflicting with your new design choices.

Important: This action is irreversible. Once you reset, all Astra customizer settings will revert to their defaults and cannot be undone. You will need to reconfigure settings manually if you want to restore your previous design. We recommend taking a backup first. You can also use the Astra Import/Export Customizer Settings plugin to save the customizer settings file and restore later.

What Does It Reset?

The plugin resets all Astra theme customizer options back to their factory defaults. This includes the global colors, typography, spacing, layout, header and footer configuration, etc.

The plugin only affects Astra’s customizer-stored settings. It does not reset:

  • Your pages, posts, or any other WordPress content.
  • Navigation menus
  • WordPress core settings (site title in Settings → General, reading settings, etc.).
  • Third-party theme or plugin settings.
  • Media library uploads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reset only the footer or only the header?

No. The plugin resets all Astra customizer settings at once. There is no option to selectively reset individual sections such as the Header Builder, Footer Builder, typography, or colors independently. If you only want to adjust a specific area, you’ll need to change those options manually within the customizer. This way, you can reset footer to default Astra settings along with other settings.

Can I reset just one part of the customizer, like only typography or only colors?

No. The plugin performs a complete reset of every Astra customizer setting. Partial or section-level resets are not supported. For targeted changes, manually adjust the specific options you want to change.

Is it possible to revert the changes and bring back the settings after reset?

No. The reset is permanent and cannot be reversed. There is no built-in undo or rollback feature. Before resetting, we strongly recommend taking screenshots of your current settings or noting down any values you may want to replicate later. You can also use the Astra Import/Export Customizer Settings plugin to take a backup of the customizer settings and restore later.

Q: Will it delete my pages, posts, or media?

No. The plugin only resets Astra’s customizer settings. All your content – pages, posts, images, menus, widgets, and plugin configurations – remain completely untouched.

We hope the above information has been helpful to reset the footer, header and other customizer settings to default Astra settings. If you have any question regarding this or need some help, feel free to comment below or reach out to our support team.
